Immediate danger or medical emergency

Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department when there is an immediate threat to life or safety.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. People can use 988 for suicidal thoughts, severe emotional distress, or when they are worried about someone else.

Make the environment safer when possible

If it can be done safely, reduce access to firearms, large quantities of medication, or other lethal means while urgent help is being arranged. Stay with the person when appropriate and seek emergency assistance if the risk is immediate.
